YMCA LIFEGUARDING CERTIFICATION COURSE
This is an intensive, course with both classroom and pool sessions certifying in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, and YMCA Lifeguard. Participants must have 100% attendance as well as pass written and practical certification tests in each aforementioned discipline in order to receive certification. Certification status is at the instructor’s discretion. Participants not passing the lifeguarding course will not recei a refund. Participants have to be 16 years old or older by the last day of the course. Upon registering at the front desk, participants will sign up fo pretest which must be completed prior to taking the lifeguard course. Participants will have to be able to perform the following skills in the pretest:
1) Swim 50 yards of freestyle,
2) Tread water for 2 minutes,
3) Swim 250 yards continuously demonstrating the following strokes: head up freestyle, head breaststroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary back- stroke and
4) Sprint 60 feet, dive to the bottom of the 10 foo pool, retrieve an object, surface, tread water for 1 minute usin only their legs, place the object back on the bottom, swim an additional 15 feet, climb out of the pool without using a ladde and perform 100 chest compressions on a CPR manikin.
Individuals not passing the pretest will be removed from the class roster. Upon completion of the pretest, participants will given their books, supplies and online assignments. Online learning takes approximately 9 hours to complete for the cour with the majority needing to completed by the class start date Students who do not have work completed on time will be dismissed from the course without refund.For more information, please contact Kevin Switek at 908-889-8880 or
